#iamawarrior Project

Ever feel like God just drops a word in your lap and then keeps revealing new things about that word to you and bringing that word in front of you over and over again? About 2 years ago I was in the thick of a battle with anxiety and panic attacks. Through the course of some awesome counseling sessions, devotional time and just every day occurrence the word WARRIOR kept coming into my life. Our youth did a series and gave out shirts that literally said “Warrior”, my counselor kept bringing that word into our sessions, scripture was telling me that I had a warrior spirit and I found that word taking root into my spirit and soul. I am in a much better place with my anxiety and panic and have found myself able to share with many other women and young girls my experience with anxiety in order to help them with theirs. It has been amazing to me to see how many girls, young girls are struggling with this!!

It has been on my heart for about a year to do a photo project with the word WARRIOR…and not just warrior but PRINCESS WARRIOR. During my quite time one morning I was drawn towards the book of Ephesians..and there it was…spelled out in right there for me…the “warrior book” as I like to refer to it lol! The concept for the entire project came to me and I started planning.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly realms…Ephesians 6:12

Yes and yes again!! I believe the devil starts planting the seeds of lies at a very young age in us. He steps back and watches as these little seeds of lies grow into vines that twist around us and choke out life and the truth of who we are and who’s we are!

These lies have the power to turn us into wounded women…but we must remember that they are lies..meant to hurt and destroy and keep us out of the fight. When you are wounded it’s harder to fight..Satan knows that and he strives to keep us out of the fight..to keep us distracted enough to not jump into the fight. He will do anything he can so we don’t see or believe the truth..

When we understand who our battle is with, who is firing those flaming arrows at us…we can equip ourselves to fight and MAKE WAR! The beautiful thing about Christ is that we have the power of Christ inside of US…read that again people…YOU have the POWER of CHRIST in YOU when you are a believer in him. Christ, who already defeated Satan and sin and death, Christ who died a brutal death BUT rose from a grave…yeah YOU have THAT POWER in YOU!

My goal with this project is to really empower my girls and everyone who sees these images to put on the armor of God and go into the fight knowing that you are a daughter of the one true king, which makes you a Princess and you are a mighty Warrior in Christ.

“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. ” Ephesians 6:13-17

When I came to these girls with this concept they all jumped on board immediately. I asked them to do something very hard and to be vulnerable and they did not back down…they are already warriors before we even put any makeup or clothing on…they jumped into the fight willingly and without hesitation…LOVE THAT! I asked them each to pick a word that would represent something they are struggling with…something that keeps them down and not feeling the best about themselves. You will see a few words repeated (which is proof enough that we have a huge battle to fight) I wasn’t concerned if we had 8 of the same words or if every word was different. I wanted it to be THEIR word…THEIR struggle. On top of choosing a word I asked them to be photographed without anything done to their hair and with no makeup…eeek! That is brave enough right there in itself!!! I hate even going to the grocery store quick without my make up on! Seriously girls…you all are my heroes!

I think we all can relate to these struggles…I know I can! Soooo with all of that said…we then made them into amazing, beautiful, Princess Warriors. The concept this time was to keep makeup a little more simple..not over the top..I wanted them to look like them but powerful, strong and fierce. 🙂 I already have soooo many ideas on taking this to the next level for the next I Am A Warrior session…I can hardly wait! 🙂

Special thanks to Krystal Dickerson and Mallory Rickman for doing our Hair and Makeup, My sister Kelly for the use of her house and horses and Sam from the Wrens Nest Event Venue for allowing us to shoot on his property.

I give you our #iamawarrior girls and their warrior spirits 🙂

This is Yenin (pronounced Janeane) She is a beautiful, smart young lady who said she choose the word stress because she has been feeling the pressure of being a Senior and trying to make all of the right decisions. She struggles with trying to be a good role model for her younger siblings and just making everyone happy with her choices and actions. I can sooo relate to all of that Yenin!! Love you and praying you remember that its ok to not be perfect, that you will NEVER be perfect and sometimes the best example we can be for people is when we get knocked down, or let someone down we can then show them how a person of character and faith picks themselves back up and keeps on going.

Hanna…Hanna’s word was Self Confidence…this from the girl who gets up on stage in front of hundreds of people and sings and acts!! Sometimes people are dealing with struggles that you would never imagine they do!! Don’t ever assume to know a person from what you see on the outside… talk to people..get to know them…learn who they really are. Hanna the world is at your fingertips! Take that power of God within you and push through knowing that you are a Fierce Enemy..YOU are a Warrior

Jazmin’s word was Negativity. She struggles with not seeing the positive in things..maybe seeing the worst before the best. Man Jazmin, I am totally like that..I can find the worst case scenario in a situation in a heart beat lol! My mind will go to the worst possible outcome and just get stuck there. That makes it so hard to move forward with confidence and determination when you have already defeated the idea before you give it a chance! I pray that you will know that God has created YOU to do great things! You have a purpose…a specific purpose. Not only that but he wants us to be bold and fearless to embrace the life that we have been given with JOY and to trust him…so hard to do sometimes…but so worth the battle!

Sophie’s asked if she could choose 2 words because they kind of go together for her. These words are seriously taking a very strong hold of our girls and women people! It breaks my heart to see so many young people struggling with these 2 beasts! Guys I know you are not immune to this fight either..and I’m so sorry! I’m going to speak into Sophie and Tara’s word of anxiety together.  As I mentioned I personally have dealt with anxiety. The thing about anxiety is that it’s not just stress…it’s not just something you can “chill out” about or “not worry” and fix it..it’s so much bigger than that. Your mind and body just start doing things and reacting to stimuli that’s not real..your mind just thinks it is. Sophie and Tara let me encourage you that 1st you are not alone! You can see that by the fact that a few other of the girls are dealing with the same struggle. Rest in the assurance that none of this anxiety and depression are from God, “God did not give us a spirit of fear…but of Power, Love and Self Control.” 2 Timothy 1:7 Keep digging into your battle…get help when you need help…seek godly counsel to help you stay in the fight and DO NOT let it keep you down. You have the power to conquer this! MAKE WAR! 🙂

Tara’s word was anxiety. Our minds are powerful but the beautiful thing is we can control them…for real! Our mercies are made new every morning…we are given the ability to renew our minds each day. There is true scientific evidence that our brains were designed to align with scripture. How cool is that? Google Dr. Caroline Leaf to read some fascinating things about scripture and our brains. Did you know that your brain is literally designed to make new neurons every morning based on your thoughts and decision making processes that morning. So we very much literally can renew our minds each morning…love that!

Kahisha and Madison both choose Depression as did Sophie. Man girls my heart breaks for you that you struggle with just a heavy thing! But here is what I know…You are all equipped to fight this battle. You have the power to make the choices to move you beyond this struggle. That may look like a lot of different things…find the one or ones that work for you…don’t give up…keep fighting. Dig into the word and know your worth, the joy that is promised to you and the grasp hold of your title of Daughter of the ONE TRUE KING! And when your weary and tired from the battle, rest in his loving promise that tomorrow is a new day, that he fights along side of you and that “when you have suffered a little while, the God of all Grace will HIMSELF pick you up, make your FIRM, STRONG and STEADFAST”…1 Peter 5:10

Kalisha…love this girls smile and gentle way when she opens herself up to you and lets you in…and girl can SING! 🙂

Madison…man I love your sweet spirit..you always have a smile on your face and your up for anything! Praying you through your battle…Be strong and courageous and never forget who’s you are!

And last but certainly not least is my oldest daughter Jordan. Jordan stepped in at the last minute for one of my girls who had a work commitment you couldn’t break. We didn’t have a word for her since it was a last minute fill in. She wouldn’t have been very comfortable to share that word yet even if she did have one I suspect. She just turned 14 and is a young warrior…entering the battle for the first time. As a mom that scares the tar out of me…I am not gonna lie.  I know somewhere in there she is wrestling with the lies that have been planted inside of her. I wish I could pour into her every bit of knowledge and truth that I know now…to make her understand and see that it all turns out ok. To tell her that when she stands in front of a mountain in her life she has the courage and power to walk straight up that mountain and conquer it! To explain to her that she will look back on that mountain and be thankful for the journey and if not thankful that she will stand proudly on the other side as a conqueror. I pray with all of my soul for all of children to fight like fierce warriors and even when their wounded to get back up and keep fighting!

Whatever battle your in I want to encourage you to equip yourself for the battle!! We can not fight a war on our own..it takes an army fighting with us. Surround yourself with uplifting and encouraging people who will stand beside you and fight with you, equipped yourself by diving into the truth of God’s word! If you are not a believer and reading this I encourage you to read the bible and Ephesians and to learn more about what this Sonship/Daughtership in Christ is all about. Visit a church or 2, ask someone you respect that is a believer, ask me. Through Christ I know that I have already won the battle before I even begin..through him I have conquered sin and death and I can stand firm and strong in that truth!

My heart is so passionate about this project and I hope that these images encourage you and that you can picture the warrior inside of you. Make a visual of what you look like as a fierce warrior, tuck that away and pull that image out every time a flaming arrow of lies comes your way. 😉

I will fight with you…I will stand with you!
